Observation Narrative
Plot located in an open sand flat encompassing low active dunes and sparse vegetation. Aeolian movement of sand remains an active process here, promoting the growth of plants such as Hudsonia tomentosa and Cenchrus tribuloides. However, scattered Pinus taeda will likely attain greater stature, stabilize the soil, contribute organic matter to the soil surface, and gradually alter the character of the vegetation. This plot contrasts with plot PARR101 as a more open scrub community influenced by aeolian sand movement. Slope shape is variable; low sand ridges range from 0.25 - 0.9 m tall.
Ca. 300 m south of the northern end of the interior dune field / Juniperus virginiana scrub.
